RE: I need to vent.

Since giftcards are an approved option for using the discount, according to your email, I can't see that it matters who bought it (the gc) and by what means. Also, since they are in-laws, I'm not sure how they were able to trace them to you. The last names are different, ect ect.. A credit run or anything of that nature isn't going to reveal they are your in-laws.

RE: I need to vent.

So you DID lose your job over it? I agree with, bellygirl. I think a quick conversation with the manager would clear things up. Because I'm sure you are hte only person who has ever "mis" used the discount. Besides, how are they pinning anything on you? As far as they know all the things you are buying are for yourself (family).

WTH is Peter North?? Where the he!! you been? they finally open the borders back up?? It's kind of interesting that when someone talks about a porn star, TTP immediately thinks of the guys. I'm assuming Peter North is a porn star??

All true, but there are some high quality porn stars that I would be more than willing to check out in HD. :B

RE: Flat Screen T.V.

Plasma is the best choice for a bright room. The issue you can run into, though, is reflection off the glossy screen. Hey, the way I see it..I don't care if it may go away..as long as it still has the warranty and parts will be avialable for a few years, go for it. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying LCD is junk. Just compared to the current technologies it isn't as good. BUT..there are some very good performing LCD sets. Just be aware of the internal scalers, motion blur for sports and video games, stuff like that.

RE: Flat Screen T.V.

yeah, I think you're right about the HD DVD porn star. Boy..Jenna in glorious HD..hmmmm..sounds nice. yeah, brother, you and me both wonder what the next 20 years will bring. It will either be super badazz or be fuged because of the DRM. It's all about greed. Shame. Honestly..I think BluRay has limited days, too. The next generation is going to be downloads. It's early in developement now. Oh, sure, it's here..but not here in full HD with full 7.1 uncompressed sound, ect ect. I think within the next 3-5 years it will be a little box capable of 3-5 terabytes and simply download whatever movie..new release..whatever in HD, full audio, store it right on top and watch it when you want to. They'll prob limit it the time for storage, maybe pay more and keep it forever, but that is the next generation I see coming. Not too distant in the future either. That will offer hte next step for movies, music, gaming, ect. BUT..people are going to spend a fortune in rebuilding their DVD library with Blu-Ray and then get hit with this so it may not be adopted as early as it could be. I do wish more would hold out for Blu-Ray..if nothing else out of spite. ;) The future of high quality video and audio hasn't yet arrived. Blu-Ray ain't it.

RE: Flat Screen T.V.

Nothing to really disagree with, prince. I didn't really state why one won over the other. The issue is that the Beta format was brought out by Sony. It confused the market when trying to compete with VHS. It was also a superior format to VHS. My issue is every time a new and better format comes out, Sony brings out something against it causing mass confusion. Porn also sided with HD-DVD, but that didn't allow HD-DVD to win, unfortunately. However, the real main reason VHS won was because of VHS's longer tape time and less strict licensing agreements vs. Beta. Laser disk did take off as the high end. It's very well known and was very well received in the industry, but that's a niche market. It didn't take off mass market because of the price. It was actually a little ahead of it's time. It did however help pave the way for DVD.

RE: Flat Screen T.V.

Hey thanks! I appreciate that. Noticed the subs...those are monsters. they are not "stock" either. I'm flat from 18Hz to 78Hz with room correction. Yeah..yeah..I hear ya on the Blu Ray. I'm kind of boycotting that for now. HD-DVD was a far superior format and still is. Sony just has deeper pockets. I'm not a Sony supporter because of what they have done with each and every new format advancement. They've done nothing but confuse the market and slow down advancement, IMHO. Beta vs. VHS (granted Beta was superior), MiniDisk, vs. CD, SACD vs. DVD-A (two awesome formats that seriously out perform CD, but thanks to Sony, neither could get off the ground due to hte confusion and equipment incompatibility), HD-DVD vs. BluRay...thanks, again, Sony. Sony won the format war with with an inferior technology. Damn friggin shame. Eventually I'll jump on the bandwagon, but for now..I'll sit back and let them not enjoy my money. I know I'm missing out, but thankfully the the Toshiba HD-DVD player is one of the best upconverting players on the market, so..that helps. Currently the PS3 is the reference BluRay player so I may pick on up if/when they drop the price. The Sony stand alone is a good player, too. Good find for $200. That's a deal.

RE: Flat Screen T.V.

Zigafool, wassup?! For that kind of lighting condition you'll want a bright tv. Plasma is likely going to be your best bet. For $2300 MSRP the 50" Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ85U is a great set. Can prob find it a little under your price point on sale. Got great reviews in the Oct 2008 Home Theater test. 50" is a good size for the distance you'll be sitting. For the money, you'll be hard pressed to find a better performing TV. It's up there with the Pio Kuro. Not quite there, but close. As far as DLP, right now you can't get a better deal. I saw at a local store a 73" Mitsubishi for $1699 on Black Friday. Killer set at a KILLER price. Now the downside to dlp is the color wheel and hte bulb. Some can see rainbow effects from the color wheel and the bulb will need to be replaced every couple of years or so at $300 a pop. I also keep hearing that DLP technology is going away. People want flat screens. LED DLP technology and other versions of DLP look promising, but they aren't cheap and the technology isn't proven nor perfected yet. IMO, I'd grab a DLP. Can't touch the screen size for price right now. They do have a little more maintenance with the bulb and not quite as brights as plasma or LCD and doesn't have quite the viewing angle of plasma. However, if you can somewhat control the light in the room or just live with it, there isn't a better deal right now. WIll DLP go away soon? I dunno..

No, man, sorry. One like that would have caught my eye, too. Meh..been alright. Going through a lot of lay offs at work. So far I've made the cuts. We'll see as time goes on. My big dog died in June and now our little dog has cancer. Other than that..pretty much same old thing. How about you?

RE: Flat Screen T.V.

That's not burn-in, that's ghosting. Big difference. Usually that is only a problem on certain sets for the 1st 100 hours or so. That's why the "anti-burn" settings should be used in the 1st 100 hours or so. It's also a sign the tv has not be calibrated or adjusted properly. As I described above, I would be willing to be the contrast on that TV is higher than 50%. We have 2 Samsung plasmas here at work and none of the ghost and we have yet to burn an image into any one of our plasmas. Like a said, be smart about it and it's really not an issue.
